Dan is an Australian artist whose interest in spatial experience, scale and the everyday life of cities has been informed by a career as a practising Architect.
His artistic practice focuses on place, using location based sketching and on-site studies to explore the relationship between people and the environments they occupy. These paintings reflect time spent in place rather than fixed views.
Watercolour plays a central role in this practice for its capacity to register time and attention. The medium allows idea to develop unevenly, with areas of focus built through transparent, layered observation, while the peripheral elements remain loose and unresolved. This process creates an authentic record of how a place is experienced and remembered.
This work has also developed into teaching small-group workshops focused on observational painting and process.
